2010 - A Printer's Perpective

Blog Roll 04 January 2011

2010 was without a doubt a difficult year.  The recession that we anticipated in 2009 decided to kick in during 2010 and the traditionally busy months were slow but the slow months were busy!  Paper prices went up an amazing FOUR times and many lines were almost impossible to get hold off as the Far East flexed its muscles and increased pulp and paper demand to the extent that mills could not keep up.

Many print businesses shut their doors in 2010; large and small alike hit by falling markets, higher raw material costs and squeezed profits.  Indeed, the predictions from 'print pundits' for 2011 as published in Print Week quite happily predict another year of bankruptcies!

For ALP the year 2010 had us riding the peaks and troughs of a wildly fluctuating market, but ultimately we enjoyed another good year with lots of new customers finding our website and placing orders.  We launched our new look website, introduced more products, created an eco-shop, embraced the social media network via Twitter and Facebook and took on another member of staff.  However you fared in 2010 I hope that 2011 will be good to you and bring you health, wealth and happiness!

Great to hear your year was successful. Hopefully 2011 doubles the success.

We were up an down ourselves throughout 2010. But things are looking promising for 2011. You made a lot of changes - new webiste, social media presence, etc - that require a lot of work. Are you finding that you're working harder but getting the same results? Or are you seeing improved overall returns for all of your extra effort?

Hey there I see that your blog is up and running again. I noticed it was down the other day and shot you a message about it through your contact form...not sure if you received it or not but it's back up so that's what matters. Cheers, Dawson PS I really like your site. Some thought provoking stuff here.
