There is a limit of how much ink can be printed on paper, this is referred to as either TIC (Total Ink Coverage) or TAC (Total Area Coverage). Too much ink means that later layers of ink won't stick to the layers below, resulting in unappealing muddy colours. Not only that but too much ink would mean that the press sheets won't dry properly and we don't want that do we?
A TIC/TAC is also a small mint.
