The great advantage to digital printing is that it is the perfect medium for experimenting with.  These digitally printed cards are part of a run of several designs, a few of each, to see what works best and become most popular in terms of sales.  Our digital printing is now done on a brand new Xerox DC8080 which eats up this type of work as a snack!  We know that digital print quality has improved dramatically over the years - so dip a toe in the water and get a few of your designs printed.  Who knows, it may lead on to something big!

A very big and rather sexy piece of tin has taken up residence at ALP - a brand new Xerox DC8080 digital press.  Whilst we already have a digital print offering, this new kit will open up many new markets and opportunities for us. With double the capacity of our previous digital press our new Xerox will allow us to enter the digital printing market much more aggressively.

Digital printing has been an offering from ALP for over 3 years and has always filled a hole in the short run printing market.  With our new Xerox in place our digital printing capabilities will be enhanced and provide more than just an avenue to short run or quick print requirements.

Training is taking place over the next few days and then our new digital printing products will come on stream. Watch this space!

6/1/12.  Print Week reports today that the Wall Street Journal claims Kodak is preparing to seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after a struggle to secure new funding.  With many UK businesses already having shut their doors last year it this type of announcement does not exactly instil confidence in the business arena so soon in to 2012.

As a business operating in a sector that suffers from over capacity, losing the odd printer does not necessarily mean a bonanza for those of us who are lucky enough to still be here.  Whilst order books are willingly and happily snapped up it remains a fact that the 'phoenix' company is the scourge of our industry.   'Now you see them now you don't' is actually 'Now you see them, now you see them operating under a new name'. On the face of it that probably sounds reasonable, until you realise that for each phoenix company is a whole series of suppliers are left out of pocket with a bad debt on their hands.

As for ALP, we will be concentrating on new markets via new technology to ensure we don't do a Kodak!

Here's an interesting fact.  Last year there was an estimated 7 million print related search queries made on the internet, with approximately 80% put through Google. In terms of product searches business cards were the top enquiry with over 2.4 million, followed, not very closely, by leaflets with 700k. 

There is no getting away from it, internet based print companies are here to stay.  When we launched this site in 2006 we were one of perhaps 10 companies using the internet to actively promote our products -  and probably only one of four or five that offered online ordering.  How things have changed! New internet print businesses are springing up regulalry and competition is tough. But I am happy to say that at ALP we continue to zip along with regular new customers and repeat business.  

Dont' keep it to yourself!
