We are located near Brighton in Sussex and provide a certified environmentally friendly printing service to the whole of the uk.
Company History
A Local Printer was founded way back in 1978 and became a limited company in 1981. In those days we were called Weald Printers (and later Weald Print Solutions); a reference to our location at Billingshurst in the heart of the Weald and Downland area of Sussex. Back then we operated out of a chicken shed with platen letterpress (raised metal type) printing technology.
In fact, we still have the platen machine today; it has been converted for finishing items such as kiss cut labels and die-cut flyers. Of course, we don't use it for printing anymore!
Many staff have come and gone over the years but Jeff, Andy and Roger joined us in those early days and are still with us today, as are many of our loyal local customers.
We invested in litho printing technology and moved to larger premises in the mid 1980's and continued to operate as a traditional local print shop throughout the eighties and nineties.
In 2003 the founder, wishing to retire, sold the company to Ray Burn. Ray set about re-investing in the business, with a view to re-branding the company and taking it online as an environmental leaflet and flyers printing specialist.
Between 2003 and 2005 investment in new printing and finishing equipment, people, training and IT was undertaken. We also gained environmental certifications such as ISO14001 and FSC Chain of Custody during this period.
In February 2005 we moved to larger premises in Storrington, between Worthing and Brighton, to accomodate the new investments.
This process led to the re-brand of the company, with a change of name to A Local Printer Limited in December 2005, although the Weald Print Solutions brand continues as a trading name, recognised and respected by our local East and West Sussex customers.
The launch of our online print service, alocalprinter.com and ALP Print Management - our managed solution for corporate clients - followed in February 2006.
So, that is how we evolved to become the online eco-friendly printing company you see today.
